The Creative Path: Correctly Understanding Creative  Growth and Personal Creative Fulfillment

Elon Musk was not born rich, Lebron James was not born great, and Pablo Picasso was not born creative. All skills must be trained by immense hours of dedicated practice, research, and work. The misconception of creativity is that it is certain like the earth’s orbit, predictable from the start and destined on a path. This idea couldn’t be farther from the truth. The truth is that creativity and the ability to create is not a skill but a way of life. It is a way of understanding and truly connecting to the cosmos in a natural yet almost religious manner. This may sound like hyperbole but it can be proven by the most successful creatives. It is widely known that the best readings and paintings become respected after the creator’s death, true great works come from the passion and pure unselfishness that only creating can give someone. This is one of many reasons people don’t call themselves creative or chase the creative path because it is such an unselfish path with sometimes little to no monetary or personal status gains. But this very concept forces itself to be untrue in the modern world. With a lack of education of the creative concepts we see free creative thinkers dominating every field and easily surpassing their non educated peers.

If you have a lack of understanding of the creative path the easiest way to grow is not just being creative but having an eye for the creative work that is the world around you. Take steps to remind yourself to observe the architecture of the houses on your ride to work, the album cover shown on the screen of your car, the right turn you make to avoid traffic, and the people around you consuming so many unique creative works every second. Most people’s favorite things are creative works whether it’s a movie, song, social media app, or book. Your favorite thing may be “mainstream” which does not take away from its value to you but only enforces it because it is widely exempted as great. But to further your creativity you must take time to appreciate why this product is your favorite. Dig deep into the history of the work, who made it, what did they do differently from the rest and most importantly what did they take from the rest. This idea of stealing in any type of creation is immensely important, all works stem from other works taking pieces or even full artistic ideas from each other.

To create a good work not only involves stealing but having the right intention in what you are creating. If you are writing an article don’t think about if the rest of the world will enjoy your writing or what they will think of it. Solely create what you think is great but also what you fully enjoy creating. It is great to make something and destroy it, not everything you make you will like. Burn your essay, break your sculpture, when you begin to love the process the product will present itself as great. When you think your product is great, the world and your peers will follow.

Being creative is not only beneficial for creating great work and products, It is extremely helpful when it comes to the corporate and industrial workplace. Many  companies have shifted their business strategies to incorporate the flow of ideas from all employers in the company. A great strategy for this is to set time aside in the day for people from all levels of the company to come together to discuss ideas. It is extremely important for the CEO to know what the janitor thinks because his creative perspective is entirely different and can be immensely beneficial. When the workplace is divided into a hierarchy these connections do not take place. Along with hierarchies killing creativity, Disconnected workplaces do the same. Over the covid 19 pandemic many companies switched to an online model of the workplace, this model took away the coffee machine creative exchange. Small interactions like this can brew huge ideas and solutions to major problems.

Properly educating each other and ourselves about creativity and how to apply it is extremely important in a world where we are constantly manipulated by others’ creative works for good but especially the bad. The properly educated have made most of the world’s greatest buildings, Songs, Writings, Painting, Toys, and many other things. But the same is true for the bad. Some creatives have abused the knowledge they have over the layman to menipulate thire beliefs through propaganda and forms of entertainment designed to waste the users time and money so the creator can profit. Social media has consumed our younger generations and most of the people that are using the platforms are unaware of how they are being abused by them.

It is so important that we all understand how to create new ideas and works in our daily lives. If we all were just slightly more focused and aware of the creative spirit that surrounds us we would all live in a better world. Take time to focus on the why and take immense time to create. Apply creativity to everything you do and understand that it is a learned skill like everything else and you can always get better. Appreciate the quality of good works and the greatness of bad works. That’s what life itself is: a creative , beautiful work, whether it’s good or bad.
